Hair Regimen Changes

I mentioned easily 2-3 months ago on my Instastories that I had made some changes in my hair regimen (sorry for those of you who have been waiting!) Since making these changes, it’s easier for me to retain length, my hair is healthier, and the outcome of my styles have had me like

So let’s jump right into it!

#1: Hooded Dryer

The first major change was purchasing a hooded dryer. My hair is very dense and as it gets longer, so does the drying process. I got tired of diffusing for hours or going to bed with a half dry head. So one of my favorite YouTubers Kimberly Cherrellconvinced me to get a hooded dryer and honeeeeyyy, it has made a WORLD of difference! I purchased the 1875W Ionic Pro Rollabout Tourmaline Dryer from Sally Beauty. No, it’s not as easily stowable as your tabletop dryer, but it’s also far more effective. It fits nicely into one of the corners of my closet and it’s very lightweight, so moving it about on wash day is easy.

It takes 60 minutes max for my hair to go from wet with a whole bunch of wet gel to completely dry, roots to ends. My curls look exactly the same after drying as they did before dryer which has helped me to drastically reduce frizz throughout the week. As a low porosity girl, I’ve also found it to be useful when I deep condition to help the product to really penetrate my hair.

#2: Felicia Leatherwood Brush

The Felicia Leatherwood Detangler Brush was designed by celebrity stylist (you guessed it) Felicia Leatherwood! This brush is neverrr in stock and now that I have one, I totally get the hype. I trade my Denman in for this 95% of the time because the construction of the brush allows me to detangle my hair faster and with less breakage. Because the rows of teeth aren’t connected, the brush literally moves with your hair instead of forcing your hair to move with it. From a practical standpoint, the grip of this brush is also much better than the Denman. I love that I can have wet and/or product-covered hands and still use the brush with no grip issues which wasn’t the case with the Denman.

#3: Ditching the Protein

Low porosity hair isn’t very fond of protein and I thought that not doing protein treatments all the time and deep conditioning frequently was enough for me. Little did I know that the seemingly small amount of protein in Eco Styler gel was adversely affecting my hair! My hair had become very coarse all over (I do have some coarse areas, but my whole head isn’t coarse) and frizzier than usual. I don’t think I was suffering from protein overload, but I was probably well on my way. So I’ve ditched the Eco Styler Gel for protein-free gels like Wet Line Xtreme Gel and The Mane Choice Crystal Orchid Biotin Infused Styling Gel and the texture and definition of my curl have done a complete 180.

#4: New Products I Love

My What Products Do I Use?Post is still 99% accurate, but I do have some new faves to add. If you’re a coily girl who’s down for a little splurge, I’d highly recommend TGIN Green Tea Super Moist Leave In Conditionerand TGIN Honey Miracle Hair Mask. They leave my hair super hydrated and soft without that weird greasy feeling. I’ve also started occasionally using Eden BodyWorks Natural Curl Defining Crème in place of a leave-in for wash and gos. It really locks in moisture, which leaves my hair soft even after applying gel (which is very drying if you didn’t know) and it also softens the cast of the gel that I put on top.

Dassit! I hope you found this post useful. Thanks for journeying with me.
